I believe in the 2nd Amendment, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
Guns do not belong in Classrooms!
The McDonald v. Chicago Court held that the Fourteenth Amendment incorporated the Second Amendment right, recognized in Heller, to keep and bear arms for the purpose of self-defense. Heller held that the individual self-defense was the “central component” of the Second Amendment. Long Rifles are also a great part of what many consider a family tradition, Hunting.
I believe that any individual that needs a semi-automatic rifle, that holds a high capacity clip, for hunting, needs to spend more time at the range. I am opposed to military style assault being available to citizens. These weapons of war should be reserved for Military, and Special Law Enforcement Units. These assault rifle weapons of war place our law enforcement officers in greater danger when the general public has access to them. I believe the Second Amendment protects long rifle single shot hunting guns, including shot guns.
I believe in intensive and exhaustive Background Checks. I believe in intensive and exhaustive Psychological Batteries. I believe in the need for requisite waiting periods for the purchase of any Firearm. In addition, individuals should be required to undergo gun safety education, passing a test, before being allowed to purchase a Firearm. Law Enforcement Officers should be consulted in the creation and administration of these classes and tests. We have an institution in place that can be used as a model for developing the administration of gun ownership, licensing, and registration. The Department of Motor Vehicles provides the model.
